Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small apples (Jonagold recommended)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by washing them thoroughly and drying them completely. Remove the stems and insert a stick into each apple.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine sugar, water, and vinegar. Bring to a boil over medium heat without stirring. Clean any sugar crystals from the pan as it simmers.
  3. Cook until the mixture reaches the hard crack stage (around 295-310°F). Remove from heat and stir in food coloring if desired.
  4. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, rotating until fully coated. Let excess drip off before placing on wax paper to cool.
