Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast (cubed)
  • 1 medium white onion (diced)
  • 4 medium celery ribs (sliced)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 medium jalapeño (minced)
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (15 ounce cans) great northern beans (drained)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add cubed chicken breast and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Stir in diced onion, sliced celery, green bell pepper, and minced jalapeño. Sauté for another 5 minutes until vegetables are softened.
  3. Add minced garlic along with ground cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and flour; sauté for 1–2 minutes to release aromas.
  4. Gradually pour in chicken broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add drained great northern beans; bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes.
  5. Finally, stir in raw shrimp (if using) and heavy cream; cook until shrimp are pink and cooked through (about 2–3 minutes). Serve hot.
