  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in flour until it forms a paste. Add the sugars and water; bring to a boil then reduce to low heat.
  3. Press one pastry into the bottom of a pie pan and layer the sliced apples on top.
  4. Lay four strips of pastry across the apple filling for your lattice crust.
  5. Weave the remaining strips together for a beautiful design.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the lattice crust.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then lower to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for about 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
