  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. For the crumble topping, combine flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together brown sugar, granulated sugar, and room-temperature butter until fluffy. Mix in eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients along with milk; mix gently until just combined. Fold in diced apples.
  6. Fill muffin cups three-quarters full with batter and sprinkle with crumble topping.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
